Progress and Decisions

This weekend I finished what hopefully will be the last set of major revisions for In Search of Monsters. Awesome, yes but very scary at the same time. Why? Because now’s when I begin to dig into the aspects of publishing I know nothing about. Important aspects that can make or break this book.

Things like layout, typeface, and design.

These are three ridiculously important and totally overlooked pieces to every publication. They’re also sadly all things I know ridiculously little about. So little that it’s more than a bit overwhelming. For example, did you know that there are approximately 1,789,458 fonts in the world? Yeah, count ‘em! And of those 1,789,458, only seven are worth a damn? And that all seven of those, even though they are listed on a supposedly free fonts website, actually cost at least $195 when you click through to download?

Bah!

Suddenly having the power to make every tiny decision in this thing feels as much like a negative as it does a positive. But challenging as it may be, In Search of Monsters absolutely must be of the same visual quality as any other traditionally published book, and it absolutely will.

I’m just learned tonight that may be easier said than done.

Go with the Harry Potter font. That seemed to go over well for JK Rowling.

Wow! That's is scary. You are smart, you will figure it out. Just go with your gut! I will read it in what ever font you put it in, even if I need a translator!
